The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a fake arrest warrant scam.
Someone is calling people using a spoofed number saying there is a warrant for their arrest for an unpaid debt or fine.
They tell the intended victim they can pay over the phone using a gift card or even cryptocurrency.
Officials say you will never receive a call from any official legal entity telling you they have a warrant for your arrest, and you will never be asked for money over the phone or any other way.
If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from law enforcement or the courthouse asking you for money, hang up and call the sheriff’s office immediately at 812-882-7660.
