Judith Frances Johnson (Pancake) Bateman passed away at 12:51 am on September 1, 2024, at the Legends Assisted Living Village. She was born on January 19, 1929, in Eastview KY and was the daughter of John Robert and Rofa Pearl (Raymer) Johnson. She married Theodore Pancake Jr. on January 18, 1947, and they were married forty-four years. They had two children, Steven (Anita) Pancake and Vicky (Loyace) Lamar. On September 27, 1997, she married Robert Bateman, and they were married for seventeen years.
Judith was a former clerk treasurer for the town of Wheatland. She later worked at the Knox County Auditor’s office and as a receptionist for Graham Hydraulics in Washington, IN. She was an RSVP volunteer and worked at the Daviess Community Hospital for sixteen years. She was named volunteer of the year for DCH in 1996. She worked for DCH as a hospice volunteer and did volunteer work in public and private schools and at the Daviess County Historical Museum. She was a very giving and caring person, always ready to help others.
Judith is preceded in death by her husbands, Theodore Pancake and Robert Bateman, her sisters Ruie Golden, Addie Decker, Ethel Golden, Thelma King, Erma Pierce, Catherine Morkin, Patty Hungate, Retha and Grady Johnson and her brothers, Jewell, Howard and J.A. Johnson. Survivors include her children, Steven and Vicky, grandchildren, Alan (Melissa) Pancake, Dalene Drake, Valerie (Chad) Searls, Audrey (Greg) Hunt and Jonathan (Eve) Lamar, great grandchildren, Matthew (Hannah) Pancake, Hannah Horrall, Joshua Drake, Julene (Larry) Moore, Josiah and Jace Searls, David and Nicholas Trella, Corbin and Dean Lamar and her great great grandchildren, Jaylyn Horrall, Brooks and Parker Pancake, and Oakleigh Willis and her sister Virble.
Friends may visit with Judith’s family from 10:00 am until the hour of service time of 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Petersburg Holiness Church, 5317 North Knox Road, Petersburg, IN 47567. Those who are unable to attend the service are welcome to call in to listen at 617-941-8131. Pastor Chad Searls will officiate, and Judith will be laid to rest next to her first husband Theodore Pancake in Wheatland Cemetery.
