The Knox County Public Library, among other similar groups, is closely watching actions concerning the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program. The initiative is designed to spark literacy in children between birth and age four.
The program was threatened after State officials pulled the plug on public funding of the program, and instead made it a privately funded one. Despite that, K-C-P-L director Emily Bunyan is optimistic about its future. Bunyan also gives another reason for optimism—a three million dollar leftover subsidy from the Indiana budget.
Even with the leftover cash, private fund-raising is still going on for the program statewide. That is being headed up by Indiana First Lady Maureen Braun.
