John Robert Hardy III, a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away on March 16, 2025, in Evansville, IN, at the age of 71. Born on November 16, 1953, in Washington, IN, John lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his passion for sports and horticulture.
Survived by his mother, Nancy “Sommers” Hardy, his loving children, Justin Hardy (Amy) and Julia Dode (Joseph), along with his cherished grandson, Navi Dodd. John’s memory will be forever held in their hearts. He also leaves behind his siblings, Cindy Bullock (Roger), Susan Rohlman (Doyle), Mike Hardy (Sandy), and Carol Elliott (Brent), who together shared a lifetime of memories. John was preceded in death by his father, John Bob Hardy II, as well as his brothers, Chet and David Hardy.
John’s educational journey concluded with his high school graduation, after which he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, embracing the family tradition as a skilled butcher at their meat market. He inherited not only the family business but also the craftsmanship and community spirit from his predecessors.
He carried diverse interests, among which his love for golf stood prominent. John found joy in playing in pool leagues with his brother, Mike. His passion for sports extended to baseball and basketball, cheering for his favorite teams, the Indiana University Hoosiers under beloved coach Bobby Knight and the St. Louis Cardinals.
The tranquility of his backyard brought him great pleasure; John adored mowing the grass and tending to his blooms, with azaleas holding a special place in his heart. He was equally fascinated by aquariums, appreciating the serenity brought by the graceful Angel Fish.
John’s presence can be likened to a warm, gentle breeze upon a green meadow – loving, friendly, and endlessly interesting. Those who knew him will reminisce about the impact he had on their lives, recounting stories of his kindness and companionship. He will be truly missed by all who had the fortune of crossing his path.
