Mary Elenor “Rinsch” Newman, a cherished wife, mother, and friend, graced the world with her loving and gentle spirit from the moment she entered it on August 20, 1930, in Freelandville, IN. Her journey through life was one marked by love, spirited adventure, and a gift for creating warmth and comfort in her home and community. Mary’s life journey came to a peaceful close on November 4, 2024, in Surprise, AZ, surrounded by the rich tapestry of lives she touched.
Born into the family of Albert and Laura “Albrecht” Rinsch, Mary’s formative years in Indiana fostered a heart full of dreams that stretched beyond her small-town roots. She often said, “As a little girl growing up in Freelandville, I never imagined I’d see so many countries and travel so far.” Her pursuit of education led her to Purdue University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She applied her knowledge practically and with endless joy throughout her life, making her a beloved figure in classrooms and later in families’ homes as a real estate agent.
Mary’s heart found its match when she married Max Edward Newman in a union that blossomed at Bethel Church in Edwardsport, Indiana, on July 4, 1952. Their love story continued to flourish, inspiring all who knew them, as they welcomed and nurtured their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Newman, who would go on to exemplify the values of dedication and service in her own impactful career in medicine and business.
The world was Mary’s canvas, and she painted it with the vibrant colors of her varied interests. From traversing the globe to shuffling cards and dominoes with friends, her enthusiasm for life never waned. She moved through the world with the precision and grace of a seamstress – a craft she excelled in – and with the tenderness of a gardener tending to her beloved flowers.
As a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Surprise, AZ and the Military Officers Association of America, Mary lived her faith and supported her community with the same care she reserved for her family.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love and joy as she is survived by her devoted husband, Max Edward Newman, and her daughter, her greatest pride and joy, Mary Elizabeth Newman, MD, MBA. She reunites in eternal peace with her parents, her brother Larry Rinsch of Seymour, IN and sister Martine Jackal, Bremerton, WA Mary’s life is a story of a journey well-traveled, a life well-loved, and a soul that will continue to inspire gentleness in the hearts of all who remember her.
