L. Frank Meyer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, left this world on November 9, 2024 at the age of 88. He was a man whose life was marked by deep love for his family, unwavering dedication to his work, and a kind and generous spirit that touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Born on July 4, 1936, in Vincennes, IN, Frank was the son of George and Mildred (Osborne) Meyer. He spent his childhood in Knox County, where he grew up with a strong sense of community and a love for hard work and family. Frank graduated from Monroe City High School in 1954. He married the love of his life, Verna Lowe, December 14, 1958. Together they raised a family of three boys. Kyle, Keith, and Kevin.
Over the years, Frank became known for the many hats he wore. He proudly served our country for six years in the Army National Guard. He owned and operated Never Rest Grain Farms in Monroe City. After his farming career ended he became an Allstate Insurance agent in Vincennes from which he retired years later. Upon retiring, he and Verna spent their time enjoying long stays at their Florida condo, hosting friends and family. Among the many visits to FL, his most enjoyed were the ones with his sons and grandchildren; including trips to Disney World, all of the other Florida theme parks, and exploring the many beaches along the Gulf Coast.
Frank was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and was a proud Shriner. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren to the Hadi Shrine Circus, keeping the tradition going for 17 years straight. Through all of his endeavors, he was most proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid watcher of Judge Judy and never missed a chance to take a nap, but he never let that interfere with going to watch a grandchild’s ball game. Cheering on his grandchildren was one of the things that made him the happiest.
Frank is survived by his wife, Verna Meyer; children, Kyle (Beth Ann) Meyer, Keith (Linda) Meyer, and Kevin Meyer; Grandchildren, Lauren (Billy) Gaines, Amy (Brett) Matteson, Matt Meyer, Logan Meyer, and Alex (Alexandrea) Meyer; Great-Grandchildren, Rhyder Meyer, Alexis Coffman, Brecklyn Matteson, Elliott Coffman, Zeke Matteson, Madison Meyer, Dierks Meyer, Nolan Meyer, and Wells Meyer (expected December 2024). He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy lives on through the lessons he imparted and the love he gave.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Mildred (Osborne) Meyer; Mother-in-law, Jennie (Rogers) Lowe; Father-in-law, Vernaline Lowe; Siblings, Marva Lee (Meyer) Dyer, Darvin Dale “DD” Meyer; Daughter-in-law, Beth (Catt) Meyer.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday November 13, 2024 from 4-7pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home in Vincennes. A funeral service will be held Thursday November 14, 2024 at 10:30 am at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery.
