Thomas L. “Tom” Johnson, 77, of Monroe City, IN, passed away Sunday March 23, 2025 at 6:36 PM with his family at his bedside aiding him in his final journey. Tom was born September 10, 1947 in Vincennes the son of Norman “Jake” and Irma Jean Rinehart Johnson. He was a 1965 graduate of Lincoln High School and served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a proud veteran and began a career in construction working for E. H. Montgomery Construction Company working as a union carpenter with Local 546. He started his own construction company, Tom Johnson and Sons Construction. He married Melissa Gayle on July 10, 1976 and they made their life together for nearly 49 years. Tom held a deep belief in his Lord and Savior and lived his beliefs in his everyday life. He formerly was a deacon at Christ Community Church and currently was a member of Wheatland Christian Church. He formerly held memberships in the Kiwanis, Moose and Washington Eagles. He formerly served on the board of South Knox Little League.
Tom is survived by his wife, Melissa Johnson, children, Kassie (John) Roush of Vincennes, IN, Chris (Nikki) Keeton of Monroe City, IN and Michael (Charity) Johnson of Monroe City, IN. His treasured grandchildren, Levi (Myia) Bromm, Connor Keeton, Ella Keeton, Madison (Kevin Abrams) Johnson, Makayla Johnson, McKenzie Johnson and Macelynn Johnson, also survive him. Great Grandchildren, Maverick Bromm, Braylynn Bromm, Kaislee Dillon, Remi Kate Abrams and Langston Abrams. His sister Kathy (Mike) Simmons of Princeton, IN his nieces and nephews also survived.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Irma Johnson, and a brother, Mike Johnson.
Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held Saturday March 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Duesterberg-Fredrick Funeral Home with Pastor’s Ron Fellows and Brent Cramer officiating. He will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors by the All Weather Firing Squad. The family will receive friends on Friday March 28, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and prior to the services Saturday at the funeral home.
