The Indiana House has passed a bill to boost the number of deputy prosecutors in counties across the state. The bill would give funding to each county’s prosecutor’s offices to hire qualified deputies.
The bill was authored by State Representative Chris Jeter. State Representative Andrew Ireland co-authored the bill with Jeter. He points to a state fund that would provide the money to enhance law enforcement.
The move for more deputy prosecutors comes after a federal study shows in many counties, Indiana qualifies as a “law desert” due to a lack of deputy prosecutors.
