Darrin was a proud graduate of Washington High School, where he formed many lifelong friendships and laid the foundations for his future. After graduation, he dedicated over two decades of his life to Jasper Engine as a skilled machinist. His commitment to his work was only matched by his devotion to his colleagues and the friendships he cultivated throughout his career.
A man of faith, Darrin was an active member of the Redemption Church of Jasper. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, providing him with strength and guidance. He lived his beliefs through his actions, always ready to lend a hand or share a word of support.
Darrin’s interests were as rich and varied as his personality. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and solace in the quiet moments by the water. His storytelling abilities were legendary, captivating listeners with tales that were as entertaining as they were heartfelt. Camping and grilling with friends were among his favorite pastimes, as was watching sports and MMA fights. Darrin’s enthusiasm for life was infectious, and he had the rare ability to make any gathering more joyful with his presence.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leslie Smith, who no doubt welcomed him with open arms. Darrin leaves behind a loving family: his mother, Linda Smith; his siblings, Duane Smith (Madonna), Teresa Tolbert, and Darrell Smith (Angela); and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss his playful spirit and unwavering support.
Darrin’s legacy is one of laughter, generosity, and friendship. Those who knew him will remember a man who was not only funny and friendly but also deeply kind. His absence will be felt profoundly by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
