Carolyn Sue “Kotter” Pohl, aged 86, passed away peacefully in Oaktown, IN, on September 26, 2024. Born on May 19, 1938, in Vincennes, IN, to parents Christopher and Louvina “Richardville” Kotter, Carolyn lived a life marked by unwavering love and dedication to her family and community. Surrounded by her loving family in her final moments, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and joyful companionship.
Carolyn married the love of her life, Lewis “Louie” O. Pohl, on September 14, 1957, in Vincennes, IN, where the couple built a full and vibrant family life together. She is survived by her cherished children Julie Pohl-Hedden (David), David Pohl (Trish Crouse), and Mark Pohl (Judy), all of Vincennes. Carolyn’s memory will forever be treasured by her adoring grandchildren Suzanne Digby (Pohl), Autumn Hudson (Swettenam), Jessie Street (Vieke), Aaron Pohl, Brandon Pohl, Alyssa Strange (Swettenam), Megan Pohl, Tracey Ellerman (Sanders), Kris Crawford (Pohl), and Tori Pohl, and her 14 precious great-grandchildren. She was a beloved aunt to several nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her generous heart.
Before her passing, Carolyn was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Louie, her loving daughters Cynthia “Cindy” Pohl-Sanders and Rebecca Arnold, her precious great-granddaughter Jayda Mae Ellerman, her cherished parents, and her siblings Norman, Herbert, Ralph, James, Bob, and Linda Kotter, Janet Perry, and Patricia Later.
Carolyn’s life was a testament to selfless service. She extended her nurturing spirit beyond her household as a caregiver, impacting the lives of many with her tender care. As a long time member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Carolyn found solace and strength in her faith. She was also actively involved in the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, embodying the organization’s principles of charity and unity. Throughout her life, Carolyn enjoyed traveling, bowling, and playing Bunco. She was a keen card player, often found at the heart of family poker games, where her laughter and friendly competition were infectious. Carolyn will be remembered as a loving and friendly presence by all who knew her.
Carolyn’s absence will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and those whose lives she touched. Her bright smile and warm embrace will be dearly missed, but the memory of her loving spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those she loved.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 10:00am to 11:45am at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home, Vincennes Chapel. A service will follow at 12:00pm at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church officiated by Father Tony Ernst. Burial will immediately follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
