It is with a profound sense of loss and a celebration of a life beautifully lived that the family of Avis Marie Lynn announces her peaceful passing on August 4, 2024, in Freelandville, IN at the age of 95. Born on September 23, 1928, in Indian Springs, IN, Avis’s journey through life was marked by her unconditional love, wisdom, and selfless nature, which touched all those fortunate enough to know her.
Avis grew up in a warm and loving family, the beloved daughter of Herbert J. Hardwick and Edith “Courter” Hardwick. She carried the values of her childhood throughout her life, building a loving home for her family and leaving behind a legacy of kindness. Avis was a proud graduate of her local high school, and she applied her knowledge and skills in her diligent work as a bank teller and telephone operator.
Her work extended beyond her professional life as she wholeheartedly served her community. Known for her caring involvement, Avis was a member of the Red Hat Society, Bicknell Library Board, and served proudly on the board of the Bicknell Manor. Recognized for her contributions, she was honored as the Bicknell Woman of the Year. Her commitment to her hometown was also evident as she was one of the original organizers of the Bicknell Homecoming, an event cherished by many. Avis’s faith played a central role in her life. She was a long-time member of Bicknell First Christian Church and later attended the Bicknell United Methodist Church. Her beliefs were the compass that guided her through life’s challenges and triumphs.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, David Trotter (Debbie), John Trotter (Shelly), Jack Lynn (Rita), and Jeff Lynn (Joyce), along with her adored grandchildren, Amy Boberg, Aaron Lynn, Natalie Dunkin, Brett Lynn, Sarah Harris, Anna Lyons, Josh Trotter, and Travis Trotter. She was also a cherished sister to Niki Hoke (Dick) and a doting grandmother to several great-grandchildren. Avis was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Russell Ray “Pete” Trotter, her second husband, John Richard Lynn, and now joins them in rest.
An avid reader, Avis’s quest for knowledge and her love for stories were as endless as the wisdom she imparted. Her life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of a kind heart. As we say goodbye, we also say thank you – for every lesson, every moment, every memory. Avis Marie Lynn, a beacon of love and wisdom, will be deeply missed.
