Debra “Debbie” Arlene Vermillion, 67, of Vincennes, passed away Sunday June 16, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.
She was born June 5, 1957, Muncie, Indiana to the late Mary Jo (Inman) Vermillion and Norman Arnold Vermillion.
Debbie was a graduate of Lincoln High School (1975), Vincennes University (1977) and Salem State College (1979) with a major in theatre. After graduating from Salem State Debbie moved to Burbank, California where she eventually worked for Warner Brothers typing on scripts. However, God had a different plan for Debbie and she returned to school at Fuller Seminary in California. She received her Masters of Divinity in 1991 and moved back to Indiana as an ordained minister for The United Methodist Church. Debbie served the UMC Southern conference in New Harmony, Columbus and Evansville, Indiana before moving back to California in 1997. Upon returning to California Debbie obtained her teaching credentials at California State University at Northridge and became a special education teacher for the Burbank Unified School District. Upon retiring from teaching in 2022 she moved back to Vincennes and proudly purchased her first house.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents Mary Jo (Inman) Vermillion and Norman Arnold Vermillion; grandparents George and Esther “Becky” Inman; and good friends Keith, Brian and Sharon.
She is survived by her siblings S. Rene’ Vermillion, Richard “Dick” A. Vermillion (Barbara), Jo M. Vermillion; niece, Kenzie P. Vermillion all of Vincennes; nephew, Brady Richardson (Aya) of Tokyo, Japan, many close cousins in both the Inman and Vermillion families and best friend Carol Craig of Evansville.
Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church located at 411 N. 4th Street, Vincennes, visitation from 1:00-2:00 with the funeral immediately following at 2:00. She will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery next to her parents.
The Vermillion family has requested memorial contributions to be made in Debra’s name to Purrfect Pets at 818 E. St. Clair Street, Vincennes, IN 47591 or the Vincennes First United Methodist Church Youth Group
