Ethylgene (Dellinger) Josh, 90, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 24, 2021.
She was born on June 13, 1930, in Vincennes, the daughter of James Lester Dellinger and Goldie (Nash) Dellinger McGiffen.
Ethylgene met her husband Joseph Josh while ballroom dancing, and they were married on June 11, 1950. They continued ballroom and square dancing throughout their marriage until his death on April 15, 2004.
Ethylgene graduated from Monroe City High School in 1948 and organized their class reunions. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Good Samaritan Auxiliary for 54 years and served on their board as treasurer. In 2017, she was honored for her 50 years of service as a volunteer. She also volunteered for Generations and was a member of their advisory board and received their Mae Fisher Helping Hands award. She retired from Harold’s Supermarkets corporate office after 27 years of service. Ethylgene danced with the Twilight Tappers for many years and enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, NASCAR, Dancing with the Stars, and basketball.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Gertrude McGiffen; niece Joetta Garrard, nephews David McGiffen and David McGiffen II; stepbrothers and sisters Don and Jack McGiffen, Maxine Byers, Kathleen Ice, Patty Morgan, and Marjorie Biggs.
Ethylgene, or “Aunt Gene” as she was affectionately known by so many loved ones, is survived by special nieces Margaret McGiffen and her partner Andrea Kaskus of Vincennes and Lucy Martindale and her husband Al of Durham, NC. Also surviving are niece-in-law, Margaret L. McGiffen of Vincennes; great nieces and nephews, Meredith, Phil, Beth, John, Julie, Bob, Jeff, Sheri, Christine, Josh, Duke, and Richelle; great-great nieces and nephews, Madison, Amy, Tristan, Tom, Emma, Ashlee, Austin, Kyle, Sydney, Aubree, Layne, Mackinlee, and Sophia; great-great-great niece and nephews, Maelynn, Anthian Jay, and Rhett, and many cousins whom she held dear.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 2, 2021 at 2:00pm at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes, with John Jordan officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until the service time. Burial will be private. Donations may be made in Ethylgene’s memory to the charity of your choice or any mentioned above.
