Gwendolyn (Memo) Dukes Vincent went to meet her Lord on Saturday, August 22. 2020. She resided for eight years with her daughter, Sandy prior to residing at BridgePointe Health Campus. Gwen was born September 5, 1930 to Lyman and Rebecca Olive (Sanders) Dukes. She grew up on Brevort Farms.
Gwen retired from Good Samaritan Hospital after 31 years of dedicated service. She was a cook. Gwen was an avid walker and a friend to all. During her active years she was a member of ABWA, worked for many years serving on the Relay for Life team and was a Red Cross volunteer. She also volunteered at Generations RSVP and made many friends along the way. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and even in the nursing home attended Bible Study led by the church.
Her best love was her grandchildren. Going to Memo and Pap’s and getting to eat chocolate for breakfast and popsicles before supper was definitely a treat, but she always made sure they were well fed and most of all loved. Named Memo by her grandson Chad, all of the grandchildren lovingly called her that. This name would stick with those who loved her most. Some of her favorite activities and fond memories included supporting the Lincoln High School Marching Band. She traveled to all of the competitions supporting her grandchildren and even went on the Disney trips where most everyone called her Memo. This name quickly was adopted by all that loved her.
She loved working in her flowerbeds and believed there was nothing better than fresh bed sheets off of the clothesline – even in 30 degree weather! She always laughed about going to New Orleans for her grandson, Greg’s wedding and marching in a “second line.” One of her last family trips was to Panama City Beach where all of her family was there making great memories.
Her heart was kind and loving and she always had a smile. If you told her you loved her she always responded with, “I love you more.” She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are her daughters, Sandy (Mike) Thompson and Cindy (Don) Beaman; sister, Barbara Heines; grandchildren, Chad (Jessica) Beaman, Greg (Rosie) Beaman, Brandon (Marisol) Thompson, Chelsea (Levi) Holscher, and Zackary Vincent. Great Grandchildren, Ryleigh Ann and Madelyn Grace Beaman, Gwendolyn Stella Mae Beaman, Kia Lanea Vincent, and Bennett Michael Thompson.
She was preceded in death by parents; her husband Delbert Vincent; son, Daryl Vincent, and her siblings, Jack, Gene, Anna, Laura Mae, Jim, Sharon and Brenda.
