Lois Almeda Koenig, 83, of Vincennes, entered her heavenly home at 5:54 am Sunday, July 19, 2020 from her residence.
She was born May 31, 1937 at home in Wheatland to Alfred Joseph and Fannie Gertrude (Smith) Kemp. She graduated from Wheatland High School in 1955 and from the Good Samaritan/Vincennes University School of Nursing in 1958. On December 27, 1958, she married Jimmie Steffey Koenig. They raised their family in Monroe City.
Almeda retired from Good Samaritan Hospital after 42 years in nursing. She worked for many years as a surgical nurse before ending her career as supervisor of Central Supply. A member of the First Church of God, she loved her small group. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Almeda was blessed with many close friends and loved to go out to eat and play games. She connected with people and touched their hearts wherever she went.
Surviving are her daughters Allyson Karl of Indianapolis and Beth Koenig Worland of Indianapolis; her granddaughters Brittany Horrall, Karisa Cunningham and her husband Jeremy, and Brianna Worland; and her great-grandchildren Walker Cunningham and Kessler Cunningham.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who preceded her on March 7, 2006; an infant brother Jerry Kemp; and a granddaughter Alaina Beth Worland.
A private service will be held at Goodwin Funeral Home at 9:00 am on Saturday, July 25th followed by a graveside funeral at Memorial Park Cemetery at 10:00 am which will be open to the public. Visitation will be at the funeral home the night before, Friday July 24th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vincennes Food Pantry.
